What Are You Thirsty For?

February 19, 2021

The beads of sweat run down your face. You wipe the sweat from your brow and grab an ice cold bottle of water to quench the thirst. After several gulps, you breathe a sigh of relief and hand the water to someone in the crowd and continue running the race until the next time your body cries out in thirst.

When I was growing up no one told you how much water to drink. If you were outside playing you grabbed the water hose and took a drink until you were satisfied. There is a spiritual thirst our soul has as well. Just as one who is running a race and a child knows when it is time to be replenished, our souls also have a built in thirst. The danger of the soul is its’ thirst can be filled by whatever it’s exposed to the most. Do you watch countless hours of tv? Are you one who loves to watch hours of the news so you are informed or is most of your time spent completing house chores and work duties? Just as we are what we eat, this same saying applies to us spiritually.

This weekend, I challenge you to satisfy your thirst with things that feed your spirit and draw you closer to the King. Turn off the tv for a little while, leave the clothes for another day and allow Abba to quench your thirst in a new way. Perhaps you are one that is disciplined in the study of the scripture but rarely take the time to play your favorite worship song and sing to the Lord; or perhaps Sunday is where you look to be filled by the service and socialization but rarely read your Bible. May your hunger and thirst for righteous increase and forever be filled by our God!
